Google\u2019s Matt Cutts announced the release of the latest installment of the Penguin ranking algorithm updates called Penguin 1.1.<\/p>\n

Penguin 1.1 release is an update of the initial Penguin algorithm set loose back in April of this year. Main goal of this update is to continue the never-ending fight against web spam<\/p>\n

Improvements to Penguin. [launch codename “twref2”, project codename “Page Quality”] This month we rolled out a couple minor tweaks to improve signals and refresh the data used by the penguin algorithm.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

It says, “a couple minor tweaks to improve the signals” plus a “refresh the data.” Cutts also said<\/span> at SMX Advanced that they did make minor tweaks to the algorithm. Matt’s tweet<\/span> on May 25th didn’t say they didn’t do tweaks but implied more of just a data refresh but there is only so much you can fit in a tweet.<\/p>\n

TIPS TO RECOVER YOUR SITE<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If you are still wondering what you should be doing right now to protect or recover your site, here are some tips:<\/p>\n

Avoid hidden text and links:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t use the same text and background color, hide text behind an image, use scripts to hide \u00a0text, use CSS to hide links or select 0 font size.<\/p>\n

Remove what could be considered unnatural links.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

As WPMU.org reported, simply removing the links from the footer of their WordPress themes removed a large portion of what Google considers unnatural links.<\/p>\n

Create quality content.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

I can\u2019t stress this enough.\u00a0 Google loves, needs, and craves unique, creative content.<\/p>\n

Avoid link exchanging.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Once really popular, it is now considered a bad SEO tactic and is captured by the algorithm.\u00a0 Don\u2019t link the websites that are linked to you; instead link them to other sites that you own.<\/p>\n

Automating software= spam.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Or at least that\u2019s how Google usually looks at it.<\/p>\n

Add meta tags, keywords, and title descriptions.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Use search terms and keywords in every area possible of your online marketing.<\/p>\n
